Dear Zoo
by Rod Campbell

The take
Lift-the-flap design creates active participation and anticipation without noisy gimmicks. It is excellent for early vocabulary and playful repetition in short sessions. Caveat: flaps can tear with rough handling, so model gentle page turns early.
Discovery context
Pause before opening each flap and let your child guess or point. The tiny pause builds anticipation and expressive language.
Why we recommend it
Lift-the-flap mechanics create active physical participation โ babies are doing something, not just watching. The repetition structure (zoo sends wrong animal, child sends it back) builds prediction and sequencing before kids can articulate cause and effect. Vocabulary load is appropriate for 6โ18 months: one animal per page, named by a caregiver.
